Brief Description: Course identifies, explains, analyzes, evaluates, & manages cognitive bias/heuristic behaviors associated with personal and group counseling, personal and business relationships, weight and stress management, anger management, habitual behavior, & fitness decision making

Catalogue Description: In this CBDSLF course specific comprehensive skills to recognize and manage cognitive bias, heuristics, ethical dilemmas, and human behavior involved in decision making related to self-improvement and relationship counseling, weight, stress, and anger management, fitness, ethics, and guidance counseling will be taught. The skills gained in this course will provide an understanding of the psychological processes and shortcuts (heuristics) that determine decision making. You will learn how cognitive, affective, and motivational factors influence how meaning and influence are perceived by others and how their preferences are constructed and impact outcomes. The course will cover identifying affective and cognitive factors that influence decision making in not only others but your own personal and professional life. At course’s completion you will have the skills and ability to not only critically analyze and evaluate decisions before, during, and after making them for yourself but also have these tools to guide others you may mentor in self-improvement. Tools will include improving focus and concentration, time management, substituting bad habits with good ones, deliberate practice, and dumping old beliefs. Rationales for “falling off the wagon,” “harsh inner critic syndrome”, “defeatist attitude”, “hazards in goal setting” and “procrastination” will be addressed and solutions shared. You will learn the important difference between setting goals and following systems to achieve desired success.
